dɪ’trʌɪtəs examines inanimate objects in urban environments, which have survived the sweep of corporate cleansing of our cities. Imagining the possibility of animism; the potential of the attribution of a living soul to inanimate objects; and perhaps a supernatural power that organises and animates the material universe: I do not see them as “Nature Morte” or within the tradition of still life but more like stills for some cinematic occurrence; slivers of time, place and the recounting of events, falling within “tableau vivant”; the traditional depiction of carefully posed scenes.
